Hi Jason:

Not too busy but not too bad for the futon people I spoke with.

The big topic was the upcoming Las Vegas show in July. Will you be at that show?

No Vegas for me. I don't plan on going to Las Vegas until High Point crumbles... if it crumbles. I should never say never though (I've made that mistake before)

This is a difficult and very political issue these days.

It seems to go between two or three different general perspectives.

High Point is Forever -Las Vegas won't make it
Las Vegas is competitive-High Point needs to get better
Las Vegas will displace HP-HP is finished

There are so many ifs that can only be answered in time.

Opinions are cheap but they do sway decision makers this way and that.

My opinion: Expectations are very high for LV. I can't see how those universal high expectations will be met across the board. HP will attack any deficiencies (of which there will be many-first market jitters-hot & dusty-too crowded-not as great as I expected-too much to do in LV-lots of buyers but no orders taken, etc. all the typical stuff). Don't get me wrong. I think LV is the future, but HP won't go away as easily as some think. See you in LV.

I really would like to go to LV, I can hear the blackjack table calling me. High point is a great market, if you are a full service furniture retailer, but too large and general for most sleep shops and futon retail shops. Being a small specialty sleep shop, I think LV is the future, but who knows what will happen. I probably will not be able to get away from the store to make the LV market this year, but I will try. Just a quick question. What is Highpoint? If it is a convention is it open to the public. I live in Vegas and I have been researching futons for my living room. It would be great to be able to see what the industry has to offer. Also, if you know of any reputable sellers in my area I would appreciate the info. Thanks

Ok, did some more reading on the futon life website and answered my question about the convention. But I am still curious if it is open to the general public. Thanks.

The furniture markets are only open to the trade. Not to the general public.

All times are ET (US)
