I am wondering whether or not I can use a standard box spring to put a futon mattress on a bed frame. Do I need to get a box spring with a platform on top? If so, any idea where I can get one.
Thanks.

You need a hard foudation, not a boxspring, box spring probably wouldnt be quite the type of support you are looking for. Keep in mind that you will be limiting airflow to the bottom of your mattress, may mold or mildew, especially if you live in high humidity areas. Good luck. Jason

I have a friend that does have a futon mattress on box springs. It works I suppose but you really loose that nice feel of a futon, and it feels more like a cheap bed. I'd recommend putting wooden slats directly on the frame and the futon on top of it.
